PURPOSE: A real time traffic data providing apparatus and a method thereof using a navigation device are provided to offer the optimal route by finely dividing the route to the destination and taking a detour route when congestion occurs in the specified area. CONSTITUTION: A GPS receiver(21) receives GPS data from a GPS. A controller calculates average moving speed according to the GPS data at setup time intervals, and displays causes of congestion when the average moving speed is lower than the threshold. An input unit(22) receives one of the causes. A route cause receiver(25) transmits the selected cause.
