PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an alkali saponified polymeric film that does not influence the formation of a coating film of an alignment layer and a liquid crystal molecule layer to be applied later or the alignment of liquid crystal molecules, by suppressing an extraction amount of a hydrophobic component from the polymeric film due to an organic solvent and by promoting decomposition, and to provide an alkali saponified polymeric film and an optical film using the polymeric film. SOLUTION: The production method of an alkali saponified polymeric film includes an application step of applying an alkali aqueous solution onto a polymeric film and a saponification step of saponifying the polymeric film with the alkali aqueous solution applied in the above application step, characterized in that the surface temperature of the polymeric film is 45°C or lower when a ratio of äorganic solvent/(total of the organic solvent and water)} in the saponification step ranges over 0.25 to 0.75.
