PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detoxifying agent and a detoxifying method which decompose organohalogen compounds, especially recalcitrant dichloroethane (1,2-DCEt), dichloromethane (DCM), or the like, in soil, burned ash, industrial waste, polluted mud, sludge, wasted water, or groundwater to environmental standard values or less in a short period of time and detoxify them without forming harmful by-products. SOLUTION: Iron-containing slurry to be used includes iron, nickel, and particles of an alloy of iron and nickel. The mean particle size is 0.01-10μm. It is preferable that 1-75% of nickel of the iron-containing slurry is alloyed with iron. When the iron-containing slurry is used, it also exhibits a high decomposing performance of alkaline organohalogen compound. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
