METHOD OF GENERATING MODULATED BEAT OPTICAL PULSE SIGNAL, METHOD OF TRANSMITTING/RECEIVING OPTICAL MULTIPLEX SIGNAL, AND APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR ACHIEVING THESE METHODS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modulate a transmission pulse signal by a simpler method compared to a conventional one without being limited to codes conventionally used for modulation of the transmission pulse signal.

SOLUTION: A modulated beat optical pulse signal generating apparatus includes a beat optical pulse train generator 20 and an optical intensity modulator 16. The beat optical pulse train generator 20 includes a first laser 10, a second laser 12 and an optical coupler 14. The first laser has an oscillation wavelength of λ1and the second laser has an oscillation wavelength of λ2, λ1and λ2having mutually different values. The optical coupler, to which the respective output beams 11 and 13 of the first and second lasers are inputted, generates a beat optical pulse train 15 and outputs it. The optical intensity modulator, to which a pulse signal 19 and the heat optical pulse train are inputted, modulates the pulse signal by the beat optical pulse train, and generates a modulated beat optical pulse signal 17 and outputs it.
