<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system and its operation method in which air scavenging and start-up hardly become inoperative. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is provided with a fuel cell stack 10, a battery 54, an SOC sensor 55, a scavenging means which has a droplet scavenging mode and a drying scavenging mode as a working mode and works with the battery 54 as a power source, a start-up propriety determination means for determining the propriety of start-up of the system based on the SOC in the system stop and a minimum SOC, and a drying mode propriety determination means for determining the propriety of execution of the drying scavenging mode. When the SOC at the system stop is the minimum SOC or higher and the start-up propriety determination means determines that the start-up is possible, and when the SOC is higher than the minimum SOC and not higher than a first SOC which is necessary for the scavenging means to work in the droplet scavenging mode and the drying scavenging mode, the drying mode propriety determination means determines that the drying scavenging mode cannot be carried out and the scavenging means does not become operative in the drying scavenging mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
