<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus and image reading system, capable of changing the size of an apparatus depending on an original size. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A substrate 12 includes main surfaces S1 and S2 and is formed in a rectangular shape. Optical sensors S are formed so as to be arranged in a matrix shape on the main surface S1 of the substrate 12, and receive light made incident from the side of the main surface S1 and the side of the main surface S2. The thickness D3 of the substrate in an area E along the long side L of the substrate 12 is equal to or less than a half of the thickness D4 in parts other than the area E of the substrate 12. The width D2 of the area E in the vertical direction to the long side L is equal to or more than a double of the distance D1 from the long side L to read areas 14 and 16.
