<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning reel which can impart a sufficient braking force to a drive gear, can stabilize braking performance, and can lighten a braking mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This spinning reel 10 includes a braking plate 64 locked and fit to a handle shaft in a state capable of being moved in the axial direction of the handle shaft 36, and a drive gear 50 pressed through a frictional plate 62 disposed between the braking plate and the drive gear, when the braking plate is moved in the axial direction of the handle shaft. The braking plate has a base 82 which is moved toward the drive gear along the axial direction of the handle shaft, a first reinforcing portion 84 extended from the base in the radial outer direction relative to the handle shaft and disposed on the side opposite to the drive gear-arranged side, and a second reinforcing portion 86 circularly formed at the radial outer direction end relative to the base of the braking plate and extended in the direction opposite to the drive gear-arranged side.
