<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain appropriate fixing pressure able to prevent paper wrinkle without causing fixing failure by securely detecting occurrence of paper wrinkle in paper that has thicknesses differing between each of folded portions at both ends and a central portion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a width detecting mechanism 70 which, when an image is formed in paper W having folded portions at both ends and having paper thicknesses differing between each of the folded portions and the central portion between the folded portions, detects the width of the paper overlap of the folded portion in the leading-end area of paper in the conveyance direction and the width of the paper overlap of the folded portion in the rear area behind the leading area; and a calculating means for calculating a difference between the width of paper overlap in the paper leading-end area and the width of paper overlap in the rear area of the paper on the basis of the detection result of the width detecting means.
