<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and surely separate a filter medium set in the filtration basin of a water purification plant in a short time while cleaning it, to clean and regenerate the filter medium for recycling. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The filter medium P is supplied to a first solid-liquid separation and cleaning apparatus C together with sewage, the filter medium P is cleaned while being whirled in a whirling cylinder 2, and the cleaned filter medium P is separated from sewage. The cleaned filter medium P is further cleaned and separated from sewage in a second solid-liquid separation and cleaning apparatus while being whirled in a whirling tank 40.
