<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbomachine which consumes little fluid, exhibits superior volumetric efficiency, is relatively compact, has a long lifetime with little wear at the interface for holding a rotor in a prescribed position, and is suitable for operation at high speeds. <P>SOLUTION: The turbomachine (10, 210, 310) arranged with a rotor (10R, 110R) and a stator (10S) includes radial positioning means (40, 42; 240, 242; 340, 342) ensuring that the rotor is in a radial prescribed position, and a contactless axial balancing device (38) arranged on at least one bladed wheel for axially balancing the rotor (10R, 110R) at high speed. The turbomachine includes a thrust bearing (36, 136) distinct from the radial positioning means (40, 42; 140, 142).
