<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing proper image fiber having no dark spots on an image to be transmitted with a superior yield, by fully removing foreign substance which is stuck to optical fibers. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing image fiber, a preform which is constituted by filling a plurality of optical fibers in a glass tube is heated and drawn. The method includes washing the preform in super critical water before the preform is heated and drawn, and washing the optical fibers and the glass tube which constitute the preform.
