<p>Phenol is produced electrochemically by anodic oxidn. of iodobenzene in the presence of benzene to form diphenyliodonium iodide. When the oxidn. is carried out in a soln. of LiClO4 in acetonitrile the diphenyl iodonium perchlorate is formed. This is hydrolysed in the presence of CuI ions to give a mixture contg. phenol, iodobenzen and HCl04, from which the phenol and iodobenzene are separated, the latter for re-use.</p> |
