<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyanionic active material that excels in high rate discharge performance, and to provide a lithium secondary battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The active material for a lithium secondary battery is represented by general formula: Li<SB>a</SB>M<SB>b</SB>(PO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>1-x</SB>(BO<SB>3</SB>)<SB>x</SB>, where M is one or more transition metal elements selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni; 0<a, 0<b, 0.5<a+b≤2; 0<x<1; a and b being specified such that the general formula remains electroneutral. In particular, the active material for a lithium secondary battery is represented by the general formula: Li<SB>3</SB>V<SB>2</SB>(PO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>3-x</SB>(BO<SB>3</SB>)<SB>x</SB>, where 0<x≤1/4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
