PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for easily conducting proper image formation on both surfaces of a recording medium. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a transfer roller 18 which transfers a toner image held on an image holding member 15 to the recording medium S; a fixing device 20, which heats and fixes the transferred toner image on the recording medium; and a reverse transfer means 22, which reverses the recording medium having the toner image fixed on one surface and guides the recording medium to the transfer roller. A resistance measuring device 23 measures electrical resistance between the transfer roller and the image-holding member, in a state where the recording medium does not exist between the transfer roller and the image holding member, and in a state where the toner image is transferred to one surface of the recording medium; and a controller 30 calculates the electrical resistance value of the recording medium from this result, to control the time of reversing the recording medium having the toner image fixed on one surface by the reversal transfer means and guiding the recording medium to the transfer roller.
