PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and high-reliability transformer by using pure water for insulation and cooling. SOLUTION: Pure water 5 is used as a cooling medium, and a structural objects of this transformer such as windings 3, 4 and an iron core 2 are arranged in the pure water. A pure water-cooling cooler 30 and a pure water-circulating pump 32 are sequentially connected to first piping 11 connected to an upper part of a transformer tank 1, and a pure water unit 33 filled with an ion exchange resin is connected to its downstream side. A pure water circulation system is composed by connecting the first piping 11 to a lower part of the transformer tank 1 on the downstream side of the pure water unit 33. A coating high in airtightness is applied to parts in contact with the pure water such as the inner winding 3, the outer winding 4, the iron core 2, the transformer tank 1, the first piping 11, second piping 12, the pure water-cooling cooler 30, the pure water-circulating pump 32 and the pure water unit 33.
