<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fuel oil having low viscosity, a low pour point, a low clogging temperature and cold filter plugging point, in high efficiency compared with conventional methods, while suppressing the distillation of waxes. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the fuel oil comprises the mixing of at least one of oilseeds selected from the group consisting of palm fruit cluster, palm fruit, palm powder, palm oil, coconut fruit, coconut oil, jatropha fruit, waste vegetable food oil and waste animal food oil with an alkaline compound and the thermal decomposition of the mixture at 300-550°C.
