The helmet has a helmet shell (1) for protection of a head of a wearer, and a shielding element (10), which is in connection with the helmet shell and extensible in a front direction (8). A shield (7) extends in a front direction and is attached to the helmet shell. The shielding element is movably guided at the shield for adjustment of effective shielding length. A guiding projection is attached to the shield and is in engagement with a guidance recess (11) in the shielding element. The shielding element is fixable in its position opposite to the shield.
