<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a new material for preventing hands/feet and/or face dropsy symptoms and dropsy feeling which are developed spontaneously in daily life, and to provide a dropsy-preventive agent and an oral composition each using the above new material. <P>SOLUTION: The dropsy-preventive agent comprises, as an active ingredient, a plant belonging to the genus Astilbe such as Astilbe thunbergii (SIEB. et ZUCC.) Miq., more preferably its extract obtained by extraction of the plant with water and/or a hydrophilic organic solvent. The oral composition containing the above dropsy-preventive agent is also provided.
