<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a size-reducible methanol type fuel cell system capable of controlling a fuel discharge amount, and having favorable efficiency of power generation and a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system includes a fuel cartridge 1, and a fuel cell unit 2. The fuel cartridge 1 is a substantially rectangular flat box shape. The fuel cell unit 2 is a box type, and it includes an upper lid member 3 and a cell unit body part 4. The upper lid member 3 is turnable with respect to the cell unit body part 4 by connecting it to the cell unit body part 4 via a hinge mechanism 5 and pivotally supporting it by a pivot 3A in one side of the cell unit body part 4. A guide frame 7 and a plate spring 8 are attached to an inner face side of the lid member 3, and the lid member 3 is biased upward (an opening direction) in normal times.
