[Also in Division B8] A bottle closure cap, e.g. of polyethylene, polypropylene, filled phenolic plastics, or rubber material, includes a dependent skirt portion, and the closure, or part thereof, is manually removable along a line of weakening defined by the sequential injection, compression, transfer, or impulse moulding, under suitably controlled temperature and pressure, of either of the separable parts on to the other which may comprise a material of different chemical composition, or of the same chemical composition having the same or different physical properties. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, either one of a plastics bottle 202 or a closure 200 is sequentially injection moulded upon the other thereof to define the line of weakening, along an interface 211, 210 of a bottle retention head 203 and a merging helical thread 204. Where the bottle 202 is moulded on to the cap 206, the bottle is subsequently filled through a hole in the base thereof which is then plugged with a spin welded disc. In the Fig. 4 embodiment, the line of weakening 304 is defined around the upper end of the closure skirt 303 from which a top panel is manually removable by a pull tab 305 depending downwardly from the panel and provided with a terminal finger receiving ring, the closure cap being secured around the bottle neck by crimping of the skirt lower end. The skirt 303 may be injection moulded on to the top panel using a split mould defining an annular cavity, or the order of moulding may be reversed. In the Fig. 7 embodiment, the removable part 312 of the closure 310 extends across the end thereof and down to the base of the skirt 318, to enable the entire closure 310 to be removed from the bottle neck. |
