<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air filter for a vehicle capable of securing installation of a filter by coping with an extremely narrow work space for inserting the filter anda narrow frontage on a unit side; and its installing method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This air filter is a clean filter 7 installed via the work space for inserting the filter from the outside and the frontage 16. The air filter has a filter part 71 having waved cross section continuous up to both side parts, and first insertion side holding frame 72 and a later insertion side holding frame 73 provided at both side parts of the filter part 71. The first insertion side holding frame 72 has elasticity to bend and deform when external force is added and to return to its original shape when the external force is removed. The later insertion side holding frame 73 is divided into a first holding frame part 73a and a second holding frame part 73b at an intermediate position of the longitudinal direction. In the vicinity of the later insertion side holding frame 73 of the filter part 71, a joining cut-out part 75 extending along the longitudinal direction of the first holding frame part 73a is provided from the divided position of the first holding frame part 73a and the second holding frame part 73b to the first holding frame part 73a side.
