In closing the toe of a stocking or sock on a single or multi system double cylinder circular knitting machine, the fabric is drawn off through the lower cylinder. Every other needle of the lower cylinder is moved to the upper, a plain fabric toe of double length is knitted on the lower, all needles return to their respective cylinders, the stationary upper cylinder is turned at least 180 degrees, the needles of the upper cylinder move to the lower and the toe closed with plain knit. After closing, the cylinders stop knitting and are returned to their original position. |
