摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic converter capable of increasing exhaust emission control performance and effectively increasing the output of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This catalytic converter in which first and second catalyst carriers are disposed in a housing in series with the flow of exhaust emission comprises; a housing 31 having a cylindrical peripheral wall 12, an upper wall 13 which seals the upstream end of the peripheral wall 12 and in which an exhaust emission inlet 17 is formed at the center portion, and a lower wall 14 which seals the downstream end of the peripheral wall 12 and in which an exhaust emission outlet 18 is formed at the center portion. The catalytic converter further comprises a catalytic carrier moving means 41 for axially moving the second catalyst carrier 31 between the upstream end movement position D where the exhaust emission inflow surface 32 thereof is brought into contact with the upper wall 13 and the downstream end movement position C where a chamber is formed, apart from the upper wall 13, between the upper wall 13 and the exhaust emission inflow surface 32. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
