<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner suitably applied for the local air conditioning of an information communication equipment room, and to provide an operating method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: In a thermo-on state (region A), whether a temperature reaches a thermo-off temperature (T0-ΔT) or not is determined (S102). Under the above circumference (B in chart), the temperature is shifted to a temporary set temperature T1 (for example, 15°C) lower than T0 (S103). Then a compressor on/off-control operation is continued under a temporary set temperature, and whether the temperature reaches the thermo-on temperature (T1+ΔT) or not is determined (S104). Under the circumference (C in chart), a timer count is started (S105). During the timer count, the presence or absence of the continuation of a thermo-on state is determined (S106).
