PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material which achieves high discharge voltage and excellent charge-discharge characteristics without reducing its capacity. SOLUTION: A method for producing a positive electrode active material containing a compound represented by a general formula Li<SB>x</SB>Mn<SB>y</SB>Fe<SB>1-y</SB>PO<SB>4</SB>, where x and y satisfy 0<x≤2 and 0.5<y<0.95, the positive electrode active material composing a positive electrode 4 of a non-aqueous electrolyte battery 1, includes a mixing step of mixing a plurality of substances containing iron oxalate as synthetic materials of the compound to obtain a precursor, and a calcination step of calcining and reacting the precursor at a temperature of 350 to 790°C.
