<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of enhancing the toner pattern reading accuracy of a sensor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a toner density sensor, which is a toner density sensor for reading a toner pattern formed on an intermediate transfer belt, and which is attached to a movable unit. A sensor for detecting an amount of movement detects a change in the angle of the toner density sensor (S103). On the basis of the detected change in the angle, an output from the toner density sensor is corrected (S117).
