PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization which is capable of producing olefin polymers with a high yield, and especially capable of producing olefin polymers, particularly a propylene polymer, having high responsibility to hydrogen, high stereoregulation and sharp particle size distribution with little coarse grains with a high yield, and to provide a catalyst. SOLUTION: This solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is manufactured by a method which comprises a step of contacting a magnesium compound (a) with a tetravalent titanium halide compound (b) to form a solid product, a step of contacting a 1-cyclohexene dicarboxylic acid diester (c) of 0.03-0.12 mol per 1 mol of the magnesium compound (a) before or after or during the formation of the solid product, and furthermore a step of contacting the tetravalent titanium halide compound (b) and the 1-cyclohexene dicarboxylic acid diester (c) with the solid product.
