<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for minimizing the loss by scavenging because a large amount of gas for scavenging a heat treatment chamber is required for suitably controlling the C potential in the carburizing treatment of a metallic material. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for heat-treating a metallic material in an industrial use furnace 1 having a heating chamber 2 provided with a heat treatment chamber 2.1 and a quenching chamber 8. The method includes, for recycling shielding gas, the steps of: (a) catalytically reacting carbon dioxide, oxygen, and steam with a hydrocarbon fed as a reactant gas to convert them into carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a preparation chamber 3 for the heating chamber of the industrial use furnace which is structurally or functionally arranged in relation to the heat treatment chamber and has a catalyst bed 3.1; (b) accelerating the reaction with a catalyst in the catalyst bed; (c) bringing the shielding gas into a controlled C potential state after the reaction; and (d) recycling the shielding gas treated in this way from the heat treatment chamber to the preparation chamber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
