The mechanism (1) has an upper cutter (2) provided with holes (6), and a lower cutter (5) fitted to an inner surface (3) of the upper cutter by force of a spring arrangement. The lower cutter is coupled with a coupling member over a coupling arrangement and with a T-shaped drive (39) that is movable to and fro in longitudinal direction (7), so that hairs penetrating outside over holes are cut by the lower cutter. The spring arrangement and the coupling member are formed by a spring element (21) e.g. leaf spring. The spring element extends in longitudinal direction of the lower cutter.
