The expander has an extension extending from a proximal end to a distal end. The distal end comprises a flexibly deformable expansion element. The expansion element is positioned in a bony body in a relaxed condition. A cavity is formed in the bony body during the application of a mechanical stress by a deformation. The expansion element comprises a leaf spring formed from outer and inner leaves (12, 13). The outer leaf is positively supported on the inner leaf and is axially adjustable against the inner leaf in the relaxed condition.
