<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform nonperforating break-through treatment almost without giving both shock wave damage and heat damage to eyeballs. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus for performing the nonperforating break-through treatment to eyeballs includes a laser light source forming a laser beam, which has a larger spot size than 100 μm and an energy density of 2.5-50 J/cm<SP>2</SP>, and an eyeball-effectively-locating controller configured so that the portion of the eyeball might be scanned from the outside of the eyeball by the beam, the scanning scans each of the points of portions with detention time exceeding 100 μs, the wavelength of the laser light source, the detention time, and the energy density are chosen so that the laser beam may thermally interact with the scleral tissue without nearly giving both the shock wave damage and the heat damage to the eyeball to evaporate the scleral tissue at 5 to 30 μm thickness within the detention time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
