PURPOSE: An electronic parking brake system and a control method thereof are provided to prevent performance degradation of a vehicle by eliminating wheel drag occurring when releasing a parking brake. CONSTITUTION: An electronic parking brake system comprises a motor(1), a parking cable(6), a sensor, a controller, and a magnet(10). The motor is driven for activation or release of a parking brake. The parking cable is tightened or loosened according to the driving of the motor to secure a parking brake force. The sensor senses the force generated on the parking cable when releasing the parking brake. The controller controls the release of the parking brake based on the sensing value. The controller determines the final release target section when the sensing value is maintained constant, based on the specific force as the final release point, and stops the release action of the parking brake. The magnet fixes the sensing value of the force generated on the parking cable. |
