A method of adhering an adhesive to a fabric piece comprising the steps of providing a fabric piece, pre-treating a portion of the fabric piece to increase its surface wettability; and, pressing the adhesive and the pre-treated portion of the fabric piece together. The pre-treatment may include roughening the surface or subjecting the surface to plasma, preferably neutral plasma. The adhesive may be a film, preferably thermoplastic, more preferably a polyurethane. Most preferably the adhesive is a coating on a tape. In another aspect, a composite structure comprising a fabric piece, a portion of the surface of which has a greater surface wettability than the surrounding surface and an adhesive bonded to the portion.
