PURPOSE: A cryptographic apparatus and a method for protecting a secret key against scan based side channel attack are provided to increase the reusability of IP core. CONSTITUTION: In a cryptographic apparatus and a method for protecting a secret key against scan based side channel attack, a key storage units(220, 230) store a user key and a false key. An AES core(210) encrypts a plain text based on the inputted key the password. A multiplexor(240) selectively supplies the user key and false key to the AES core. If an operation mode of the AES core unit is a scan test mode, an TAP (Test Access Port) controller(250) controls the multiplexer in order to supply the false key to the AES core.
