PURPOSE: A feature vector selecting method and an apparatus thereof, and a music genre classifying method and an apparatus using the same are provided to successively select feature values, thereby improving classifying accuracy in multi ranges. CONSTITUTION: A probability distribution function is generated about each feature value extracted from training data classified into several groups(120). The probability distribution function is based on the Gaussian mixture model. Feature values minimizing a classification error is selected using the generated probability distribution function(150). The selected feature values are determined by elements configuring feature vectors.
