PURPOSE: A medium discerning device and a method thereof are provided to shorten a bill discernment time by minimizing a noise flowed from outside and an inner circuit. CONSTITUTION: A first magnetic sensor(110a) and a second magnetic sensor(110b) sense a magnetic component printed to a fixed position of a bill. A first amplifying/band pass filter part(120a) and a second amplifying/band pass filter part(120b) amplify the sensed magnetic component, and filter an amplified noise. A differential analog/digital converter(130) converts a reduced magnetic component into a digital signal. A control part(140) receives the digital signal, reads the digital signal, and determines the bill by comparing a reference value with one digital signal. A storage part(150) stores the reference value.
