The device has a reflection element (2) i.e. semi-transparent mirror, for partially reflecting an image originating from a projection module (1) in a normal gaze direction (11), where an ambient luminosity detector is attributed to the device. The reflection element has a variable degree of reflection with the help of an electrochromic element (21) constituted by an electrochromic layer, where the reflection element is positioned at a distance relative to a windscreen (3). The detector generates a detection signal against which the variable degree of reflection is provided. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying an image in a normal gaze direction through a reflection element of a display device in a motor vehicle.
