The retainer has a piston rod with a piston side end accommodated in an adapter element (1). The adapter element includes cylinder shell shaped housing halves (G1, G2) that are axially, flexibly connected with each other and consist of plastic. Molded parts are provided in the contact surface of the housing halves. The molded parts are inwardly and outwardly brought in contact with corresponding recesses. Latching elements (R1, R2) e.g. snap arms, are arranged on a periphery of the halves and are brought in contact with corresponding latching retainers of a piston.
