The cable has a phase conductor (2) washed by an insulating medium e.g. insulating oil, and an enclosure casing (1) for closing the insulating medium. The enclosure casing is surrounded by a protective pipe (4). The protective pipe has two layers (5, 6), where the layer (5) is a fluid-leakproof metallic iron layer and the layer (6) is an armor coating. The layer (6) counteracts a drive acting on the enclosure casing. Bonding agent applied on the iron layer is a mineral bonding agent or concrete. An independent claim is also included for a method for laying a gas-insulated electric cable.
