The method involves recording of operating parameters e.g. fuel temperature, of an internal combustion engine (1). Values of the parameters are selected, and weighed group of the parameters are statistically evaluated. A warning signal related to an injection valve (2), a pressure reservoir (3) and a high pressure pump (5) of the engine is produced from the values of the parameters, during exceeding of a specific failure probability of the valve, reservoir and the pump, where the signal indicates an increased default risk of the valve, reservoir and the pump.
