Production of a rolling bearing component in sleeve or bushing form comprises deforming a two-layer composite band consisting of a first metal layer band which does not harden or not completely harden under heat treatment and a second metal layer band which hardens under heat treatment to form a sleeve or bushing form so that in the region of a flanged rim of the sleeve or bushing formed in the deforming process the second metal band is no longer present or has a reduced thickness. An independent claim is also included for a rolling bearing component produced by the above process. Preferred Features: The second metal band is reduced by at least 75%, preferably by at least 90%.
