PURPOSE: An automatic voltage regulator is provided to immediately stabilize an output voltage, thereby exactly and quickly carrying out a responding process. CONSTITUTION: A main transformer transforms power applied to an input end. A compensation transformer supplies a compensation voltage to a primary side of the main transformer. Only when an output voltage detected from an output end is out of a regulated allowable value, a controller(120) generates a control signal for maintaining the corresponding state. By the control signal, one end of a secondary side of the compensation transformer is connected to one end of the primary side of the main transformer. A step up/down selector(130) of a step up/down switch unit selects step up or step down.
