IMAGE ENCODING/DECODING METHOD AND APPARATUS USING BLOCK TRANSFORMATION

PURPOSE: An image encoding/decoding method using block conversion and an apparatus thereof are provided to predict all pixels of a current block from the nearest pixel according to a prediction direction, thereby encoding/decoding an image. CONSTITUTION: A subtracting unit(430) generates a rectangular residual block by subtracting a rectangular current block and a rectangular prediction block. A rearranging unit(440) rearranges the rectangular residual block by a square residual block. A converting unit(450) converts the square residual block into a frequency domain. A quantization unit(460) quantizes the converted residual block. An encoder(470) encodes the quantized residual block to a bit stream.
