The method involves identifying step enabling conditions and input signals. State variables of field equipments (40) e.g. sensors (41), assigned to the conditions and the signals are retrieved, respectively, corresponding to a program sequence i.e. software program, within a cycle time for output signals for controlling the equipments. Actual state variables of the equipments are delivered after changes are made in the equipments. The output signals corresponding to the input signals are assigned and provided for an active step or a successive step over a wireless communication unit (30). An independent claim is also included for a field equipment with state variables.
