The device (10) has a mixing device (16) mixing a color to be mixed, and a metering device (18) provided for metered delivery of tinting color e.g. black. A color sensor (20) detects the actual color of the color to be mixed. A controller (28) is provided such that the metering device is operated by the controller based on the result of comparison of detected actual color of the color to be mixed with a target color shade of the color to be mixed, where the target color shade selected by an user is input through an input device (32) i.e. keyboard. An independent claim is also included for a method for mixing color with a color shade.
