PURPOSE: A skin whitening cosmetic composition containing Andrographis paniculata or andrographolide is provided to strongly suppress melanogenesis and use for whitening. CONSTITUTION: A skin whitening cosmetic composition contains Andrographis paniculata extract as an active ingredient. The Andrographis paniculata extract is isolated using methanol, petroleum ether, chloroform or ethanol. The Andrographis paniculata extract is fractioned using hexane and chloroform and fractioning again with purified water, methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, ethyleneglycol, propyleneglycol, 1,3-butyleneglycol, ethyacetate, acetone or ether. The skin whitening cosmetic composition contains 0.0001-10 weight% of andrographolide based on total cosmetic composition.
