A modular system (10) for acquiring biometric data includes a plurality of data acquisition modules (14, 16, 18) configured to sample biometric data from at least one respective input channel at a data acquisition rate. A representation of the sampled biometric data is stored in memory (60, 62, 64) of each of the plurality of data acquisition modules (14, 16, 18). A central control system (12) is in communication with each of the plurality of data acquisition modules (14, 16, 18) through a bus (26).
