Method of curing an inflatable packer

A method of curing a packer assembly 110 includes; making a packer assembly by placing an inflatable packer 126 around a mandrel 144, wrapping the inflatable packer with a polyamide bandage 120 and placing a sealing layer 130 around both the polyamide bandage and the inflatable packer to form an airtight seal about the inflatable packer which prevents oxidation during curing. The curing can take place in an air autoclave. There may be an outer polyamide bandage around the sealing layer. The polyamide bandages can be wrapped around the inflatable packer or sealing layer to compact them during curing. The sealing layer may be a polymeric material and the inflatable packer can be formed from rubber. In a further embodiment the polyamide bandage may comprise an anti oxidation layer with no separate sealing layer.
