<p>Optically active phenylalanines of formula (I): (where R is H or lower alkyl) are racemised by heating in aqs. suspension to 150-200 degrees C (pref. 170-180 degrees C) under presure. Since it is not necessary to completely dissolve the optically active, (I), relatively large amounts can be subjected to the racemisation procedure, and energy and equipment costs are reduced. Isolation of the racemate is considerably simplified if the suspended racemate is simply filtered off and the mother liquor used for preparing a new suspension of optically active (I).</p> |
