AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FOR VEHICLES

PURPOSE: An auto transmission for vehicle is provided to arrange a brake and a clutch which are closely arranged to each other, and to make the reduction of the outer diameter and the whole length possible, thereby improving space utilization. CONSTITUTION: A clutch(C1) interlinks changeably one rotation element of a planetary gear set(SPG1) located in the front side and one rotation element of the planetary gear set located in the back side. A brake(B2) operates two rotation elements as a fixing element at the same time and operates only the rotation element of the rear planetary gear set as the fixing element. A clutch retainer(8) forming the clutch and a brake hub(26) forming the brake are formed into an integrated power transmission member. The clutch is arranged in the front of the front planetary gear set. The brake is arranged in the front of the clutch.
